Timber Families
Proverbs 17:25 A foolish son is a grief to his father and bitterness to her who bore him.
The Bible is full of dads and moms who raised horrible children, causing them grief beyond belief. The world today is no different. Fathers would rather play video games in their mom's basement than raise their children. Moms worry more about how many followers they have than whether their own children are following the Lord. And meanwhile children move increasingly further away from God's plan for their life.
This is not the plan God has for families. In chapter 6 of Deuteronomy God calls families to place God at the center of everything they do. To love the Lord your God with all your heart, your soul, and all your might. To soak their entire lives with His word, so that they would not forget about him when they grow up.
At Timbers our role is to support families as they grow closer to God's plan. However, we are not to be the main source of spiritual guidance in your home. This is not something God designed the church for. God designed dads and moms to train up their children in the way they should go and when they are old they will love Christ with passion.
To borrow a building analogy at Timbers we are the subcontractors to parents who are the general contractor. This is why we provide quarterly opportunities for both moms and dads to sharpen their spiritual leadership in the home. To train and equip Dads to battle spiritually for their children, and moms to raise followers of Christ and His word.
Therefore at Timbers we hold families accountable for their children and their actions, as God's word calls us to do (Ephesians 6:4). We will be bold in both encouraging and calling out Timber families that need it, doing so with both gentleness and respect, but addressing it nonetheless.
We also understand that family circumstances can result in a home without a God-fearing Dad. For that reason we also feel it crucial to train moms to follow Christ's guidance in the home, and allow the church to come alongside those families.
